On June 26, 2006 American Medical Response (AMR) took over the contract for providing transportation services to Texas Medicaid patients in the counties of Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Walker, Waller and Wharton. Many patients are now complaining that they are having to wait various times for dialysis pick-up, and on some occasions, are not being picked up at all. One patient recently had to walk home from dialysis.
Several excuses have been offered, but there has yet to be a solution to this problem. Patients and social workers and even this physician have not been able to get through on the AMR line, (877) 633-8747, in a reasonable amount of time. The Nephron Information Center has contacted Medicaid directly, and is promising to contact the State Legislature if these complaints are not resolved. Furthermore, if AMR is not performing on their contract, there should be a termination clause that can be activated.
If you are having problems with transportation, and if you have not been successful in reaching AMR, please e-mail The Texas Department of Transportation at medtrans.dot.state.tx.us
